information

1954 Lancia Aurelia B20 GT Series IV

2-door GT Coupe following a design of Felice Mario Boano at Ghia, constructed by Pinin Farina

2451cc pushrod V6-engine, producing 118bhp, top speed of approx 180km/h

Designed by the legendary Vittorio Jano, the Lancia Aurelia B20 GT proved a formidable competitor distinguishing itself on the Mille Miglia (2nd overall 1951), Le Mans 24-hours (class win, 1951 and 1952), Targa Florio (outright win, 1952), Liege-Rome-Liege (1st overall, 1953) and Monte Carlo Rally (outright win, 1954). The road car choice of contemporary F1 drivers Juan Manuel Fangio, Jean Behra and Mike Hawthorn, the sleek, fastback Coupe bristled with innovation including independent ‘sliding-pillar’ front suspension, a compact aluminium V6 engine (a first for a production car), rear-mounted transaxle with inboard drumbrakes, and first car provided with radial tires!

Evolving through six series starting in 1951, a mere 3,121 had been sold by the time that production ceased in June 1958.

In many ways the Fourth Series cars with their elegant styling, increased torque and new ‘De Dion’ rear suspension (instead of the original semi-trailing-arm arrangement) were the best compromise between the sporting and minimalist exuberance of the two litre cars and the comfortable but heavier and less lively Fifth and Sixth Series.
